Events and Activities at the Zillmere Veterinary Surgery

Oh my goodness, I can’t believe how quickly October has flown by (or how long it has been since my last blog entry). This past month has been a whirlwind!

The month started with a quick trip to Chicago for my husband’s high school reunion. We were lucky enough to be there while the trees were turning. The beautiful reds, yellows and oranges were an amazing sight for this girl from south of the equator.
I was also astounded by the number  of Halloween shops and the variety of props and costumes available. For someone who loves fancy dress it was like finding the Holy Grail.

Not so lucky was the miserable flu virus which knocked me rotten for most of the next two weeks. We had a final year vet student with us for those two weeks – good luck Lucia for your final exams.

Mid-month was Vet Nurse Day – a day for us to recognize and celebrate the brilliant veterinary nurses and support staff who keep our practice functioning at 110%. I absolutely believe that you could not find a more compassionate, highly skilled or dedicated team ANYWHERE and it is truly a privilege to work beside them each day. Our in-house celebrations involved massage vouchers and a chicken, chocolate and ice-cream lunch.

Provet also hosted a dinner and awards evening to honour the veterinary support staff and our very own Nara Clohessy was awarded the Trainee Veterinary Nurse of the Year. This award was so well deserved, Nara is a great asset to the profession and an integral member of our practice team.

The next day we exchanged gowns for fatigues and descended upon the quiet hamlet of Samford for our first Paintball adventure. After  a comprehensive 30 second safety briefing we were let loose with 200 paintballs and about 50 guys channeling their inner Rambo.

After a dismal start where we were all annihilated in the first 30 seconds (who knew those little suckers could travel so far) we regrouped and acquitted ourselves admirably. Well, at least we had some impressive bruises to show for our adventures. The following Friday was the Quest Business Achievers Awards night where we were ecstatic to discover that Vicky Koks was awarded the Employee of the Year! What a month for the Zillmere Vet team!

Again, this award was very much deserved – Vicky has an unparalleled drive and enthusiasm for her profession and we would be lost without her.

Just for fun – we ended the month with a Halloween party, yes, I could not resist the temptations of those wonderful shops in the US!

Our last exciting news for the month is that Dr Louise Lee

has decided to join the team full-time. Louise has been with us part-time since March and has rapidly become indispensable. She is a terrific vet and a lovely gentle, caring person.

We will now be able to offer more appointment times and options to better suit the needs of our clients.
